Cloud adoption is easy and secure.”- Really? How easy and How secure?

Having said that, no one really wants to spend their time maintaining physical servers and managing their tangled workload when they can use that time to build something profitable. Hence, Cloud Computing comes into the light. It has enabled large enterprises to switch from physical servers to virtual machines entirely. However, migration to the cloud is not as simple as it seems and very often organizations make mistakes along the way which are likely to produce undesirable results.

1.   Not choosing the correct cloud model

Organizations need to choose from among the four different cloud models, namely Public, Private, Community, and Hybrid, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. The adoption of these models depends solely on the usage and criticality of the workload. Public clouds are owned by cloud providers and can be used on a pay-as-you-go basis. One can easily avail the services of a public cloud in addition to an efficient Cloud Management Platform that help them analyze, optimize and secure their cloud altogether.

A private cloud, on the other hand, belongs solely to an organization for internal utilization. Only one particular organization can leverage a private cloud. A community cloud is a type of cloud which is shared in collaboration with companies working for the same industry. A hybrid cloud can take up the properties of any of the aforementioned clouds and can be easily used to process data and applications accordingly.

2.   Lack of approach while applying Cloud Solutions

A project can be properly implemented if a befitting approach is adopted. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is highly recommended for that matter. With ERP system deployed, prioritizing your tasks become a cake walk. It also helps save a lot a time in the process.

3.   Assuming that Safeguards rendered by the cloud provider are enough

It is the sole duty of the customer to check the product before procurement. The stakes are higher when it comes to moving the entirety of your workload to a cloud, hence, all the levels of security should be looked upon thoroughly before it is too late. Risk analysis should be done regularly. Security plays a vital role in differentiating one Cloud architecture with others.

4.   Saying “NO” to external help

Migration to the cloud isn’t always easy, hence, relying on private employees, who are mostly untrained in this type of task, could prove to be a grave mistake resulting in loss of money. It becomes crucial to seek the help of Cloud Managed Service provider while switching to another cloud architecture.

5.   Neglecting the fact that your applications may not always work in the cloud

It is important for applications to work properly on the cloud architecture. Otherwise, all the efforts in creating the applications and migrating them to cloud would not make sense. The applications should be amended accordingly in order to optimize them for the cloud environment.
